UNIFORM POLICY REQUIREMENTS AND REMINDERS

As we begin the 2011-12 school year, we wanted to take the opportunity to reiterate a few uniform policies that must be enforced in order to maintain the quality and standard upon which the Wildwood Uniform Policy was founded. The policies below address some of the common infractions:

1. ONLY Wildwood monogram clothing and jacket may be worn inside or outside the school buildings during school hours; this means any jacket or sweater worn to keep warm MUST be a Wildwood monogrammed approved item. Personal jackets or other garments may NOT be worn during school hours at all. This policy is strictly enforced. “Monogram” means the “Wildwood Christian Academy” stitching – not the “WCA” patch or the PE logo.

Wildwood is constantly being visited by potential families, business leaders, community members, etc. and it is very important that we present a uniform appearance to our visitors. The outer layer worn AT ANY TIME DURING SCHOOL HOURS must be an approved Wildwood monogrammed piece. Wildwood has made available to the families several options for cold weather gear through Buckhead Uniforms. Please refer to the approved uniform list to see your options in coats, jackets, rain jackets and sweaters. Please discuss this with your child; any student wearing something other than the approved clothing will be asked to remove it. Please send your child to school with appropriate monogrammed clothing that will keep him/her warm inside the building and while outside.

2. Socks must be worn and they must be worn above the ankle; “no show” socks are NOT permissible.

3. Undergarments worn must be plain white under white or black uniform shirts or black short sleeve t-shirts (under black polos only NOT under white uniform shirts). There should not be any graphics visible to the eye or seen through the uniform.

4. Belts must be worn and must be black or khaki. NO brown or other color belts are permissible.

5. Shirts are to be tucked in at all times; please discuss this with your child.

6. SHOES: Only all-white or all-black athletic shoes or the other approved shoe options are allowed to be worn inside during school hours with the school uniform. Any other athletic shoe may be worn during PE only BUT the student MUST change back to his/her uniform shoe after PE. PLEASE REMIND YOUR CHILD OF THIS POLICY. The black lace up athletic shoes are NOT an approved chapel shoe; please refer to the uniform list for chapel shoe options which include black Merrill’s, black bucs and black penny loafers. Only tan Merrill shoes, NOT brown, are allowed and approved as an optional shoe.

7. FRIDAY DRESS CODE: PE uniforms are to be worn to school and will be worn all day. It is preferred that the all-white or all-black athletic shoe be worn while in the classroom and the athletic shoe of choice, if different from the white tennis shoe, be worn for PE; however, on Fridays only, the athletic shoe of your child’s choice will be allowed to be worn all day (only athletic shoes are to be worn on Fridays – merrills, maryjanes, etc. should NOT be worn with PE clothes). During the colder months, please note that PE logo sweats are the only outer covering that may be worn to school and during school hours. The WCA sweatshirt is permissible during PE and other outside activities; it may not take the place of the standard monogrammed uniform that is worn inside the building during school hours.

Other reminders:

*If you see that the white clothing items are getting stained, try the Clorox pen; it does wonders.
*All-white athletic shoes are available at various shoe stores, including Buckhead Uniforms, Nike outlet, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Stride Rite.
*Please remind your child that jackets are not permissible during Chapel; however, the sweater options may be worn with the chapel uniform.
*Black polo shirts may NOT be worn with black pants or shorts; however, black pants with white shirt and black sweater/vest may be worn together.
*Buckhead Uniforms is our ONLY source for the uniform pieces. We do not permit other sources to be used due to the nature of the clothing items themselves and differences that occur with color, shade and style. Buckhead Uniforms has FREE alterations available so every effort has been made on your behalf to provide the most convenience in purchasing uniforms. PLEASE NOTE, many options have been made available for the very reason that not all pieces will necessarily work for your child.

PLEASE LABEL ALL UNIFORM PIECES WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME; THIS IS A MUST AND WILL REDUCE THE AMOUNT OF LOST CLOTHING AND SWITCHED CLOTHING IN THE LOCKER ROOM. IRON-ON LABEL SETS ARE AVAILBALE FOR PURCHASE AT THE TRADING POST.

Wildwood Christian Academy’s 2011 Uniform Policy Changes & Additions to Uniform Clothing Items

• Beginning with the 2011-2012 school year, only Wildwood uniform items may be worn on campus during school hours and during after school activities (i.e. golf, tennis), unless notified in advance by a teacher or other authorized personnel.
• The outer garment worn by a student must be an approved Wildwood monogram/logo item; no personal jackets, coats or sweaters may be worn to school or at any time during the school year during school hours on the school campus, including recess. This policy also applies to students participating in school-related after school activities (i.e. golf, tennis) for which the student is representing Wildwood Christian Academy.
• All black athletic shoes may now be worn as an option in addition to the other shoe options. However, this black athletic shoe may not be worn as part of the Chapel uniform; students must wear the required shoe with the Chapel uniform. Wildwood reserves the right to disallow a shoe worn by a student if it does not follow policy.
• New “open” legged sweatpants are now available in addition to the elastic bottom sweatpants. The logo P.E. t-shirt and shorts are required for P.E. for Kindergarten through 8th grades. The logo sweatshirts and sweatpants are optional pieces for the cooler weather. However, NO other clothing items are allowed to be worn over the t-shirt and shorts during P.E. to stay warm; the only clothing allowed are the logo sweats.
• In addition to the P.E. clothing items mentioned above, the Upper School (6th – 8th grades only) now have an additional monogrammed sweat suit option to be worn for P.E. and on Fridays. This new item will be considered an “option” for the 2011-2012 school year, but will become a requirement for the Upper School the following year. This new sweat suit is a nylon blend black zip up jacket with white stripes down the arms with matching sweatpants (very similar to an “Adidas” style sweat suit).
