Wildwood Christian Academy Odyssey of the Mind Teams
Advance to State Competition
By:
Melissa Lowrie
On Saturday, March 6th, Wildwood Christian Academy
sent two teams to compete in the Odyssey of the Mind
Regional Competition at Harrison High School in
Kennesaw. The Division I team was awarded 1st
place in “Discovered Treasures” and the Division II team
won 3rd in “Food Court.” Wildwood’s Odyssey
Club also entered a banner in the Banner Competition and
was awarded 1st place. All teams will advance
to the Georgia State Competition in Columbus on April 10th.
Coach Elizabeth Cook stated: “After five months of hard work,
we are proud once again that our teams’ solutions have
advanced us to State Finals.” This will be the third
year Wildwood has entered the Odyssey of the Mind
competition, and the third year the teams will advance
to State. In 2008 and 2009, Wildwood teams advanced from
State and went on to compete in the World Finals. For
those not familiar with Odyssey of the Mind, it is a
unique, twenty-five year old program that teaches
students creative problem solving and team building.
Each year teams are given a problem to solve and then
must present their solution to the judges during
competition. While Wildwood competes with an Elementary
and Middle School team, OM is open to teams from
Kindergarten through college-age.
The Division I Team is coached by Elizabeth Cook and Leslie
Head. Team members are Hope Bobak, Alexis Cook, Skyler
Denton, Sean Patrick Duffy, Oscar McMullen, Caroline
Singleton and Garrett VanWambeke. The Division II Team
is coached by Ranettia Beasley and Melissa McCurley.
Team members are Lindy Beasley, Tori Hicks, Morgan
McCurley, Susannah Melton, Joy Przybyla and Katie
VanWambeke. The OM Club is responsible for the winning
banner; club members are: Gavin Burris, Ryan Duffy,
Nadia Hopkins, Abby Hopkins, Anna Catherine McMullen,
Jackson Melton, Madison Meyer, Harrison Meyer, Billy
Ruff, Madison Sparshott, Casslyn Travis and Abigail
Womack. The Odyssey Club is led by Lauren Melton and
Joy Smith.
Congratulations to the teams from Wildwood Christian Academy.
Good luck at the State Competition!
