Wildwood Hosts First Grandparents’ Day
November, 2007
By: Melissa Lowrie
Wildwood Christian Academy hosted its first
Grandparents’ Day on October 24th, 2007. It was an
amazing success with over 75 grandparents and special
friends coming from as far away as Michigan to attend.
The morning started out in Chapel where the students,
faculty, parents and grandparents heard a presentation
from the 6th, 7th and 8th graders. The students
presented a “Ten Commandments for Grandparents,” which
included “Thou shall make homemade cookies and pancakes”
and “Thou shall spoil me.” Music teacher, Thelma Cagle,
led the students in a beautiful song about grandparents,
complete with sign language. The morning’s message was
presented by Rev. Jim Garvin from Dawsonville First
United Methodist Church.
After Chapel, the grandparents were treated to
refreshments and a welcome from Wildwood co-founders
Larry and Pamela Ruff. Following a video presentation
about Wildwood’s history, Head of School, Lyn Cates,
spoke briefly about the importance of academics, the
school’s accreditation credentials, the first-rate
faculty, and the nurturing Christian environment
Wildwood provides.
Grandparents then joined their grandchildren in the
classrooms for some time together. Many of the students
sang, others presented essays about their grandparents,
while the younger children read and worked on a craft
together. “It was such a wonderful opportunity for us to
see our granddaughter in her classroom,” stated Wildwood
Grandparent Rhoda Lawson of Woodstock, Georgia. “We
can’t wait to visit next year.”
Wildwood would like to thank all the grandparents and
friends that made Grandparents’ Day so successful. “I’ve
never seen so many smiling faces, both grandparents and
children alike,” Head of School Lyn Cates commented.
“Everyone left with full hearts.” For more information
