WILDWOOD UPPER SCHOOL IN OUR COMMUNITY
Students
Meet Government Leaders and Volunteer

Wildwood Christian
Academy’s Upper School students had a unique opportunity
to visit our community leaders here in Pickens County
the week before Christmas. The Sixth Grade, accompanied
by teacher Laura Hensley, met with Rob Jones in the
Pickens County Administration Building and toured the
county offices. Mrs. Hensley stated, “Commissioner Jones
was so kind to take time out of his busy schedule to
speak to our students about the responsibilities of a
commissioner. Our students learned so much about the
Emergency Call Center along with the various offices at
the Pickens County Administration building.” The
students also toured the Pickens County Jail under the
supervision of Lt. Riggs. After lunch, they continued
learning more about the county by meeting with Allen
Wiggington in the Magistrate Judge’s office at the
Pickens County Courthouse.
The Seventh and Eighth
Grades, under the direction of Mrs. Leslie Head, worked
at the Community Thrift Store, restocking, pricing,
organizing and setting up displays. The afternoon found
them at the C.A.R.E.S. food pantry, where they checked
in customers, filled orders, stocked shelves, bagged
food into family-sized portions and also helped clean
up.
The students now know
much more about the Pickens County government and its
charitable organizations. In addition, they were
afforded the opportunity to “give back” – an important
life lesson that is promoted at Wildwood Christian
Academy.
