Wildwood Christian Academy Begins Sixth School Year
August, 2008

Wildwood Christian Academy kicked off its sixth academic year with a Welcome Picnic and Orientation on August 18, 2008. The parents, siblings, students, faculty and staff came together to meet the teachers, visit the classrooms, and greet old and new friends.  The group was treated to a delicious meal from Checkered Flag Catering as well as the musical talents of Bill Pound, all provided by Wildwood’s Parents Action Council.

 After a warm welcome from founder Larry Ruff, Head of School, Lyn Cates, introduced the new Wildwood families as well as additions to the faculty and staff.  Wildwood welcomed new faculty members, Laura Hensley, Leslie Head, Carol Hagadorn, Becky Duryea, and Kim Kinne-Ryan. Lindy Brewer was introduced as Wildwood’s new Student Counselor. In addition to Kim Wallace and Melanie Pearson, who will be teaching the 4 year olds in Wildwood’s preschool program, Kathy Sims and Kate Duensing will be teaching the 3 year old preschools. 

The first day of school for the Academy was held Wednesday, August 20^th. The students were all warmly greeted in the carpool line by Mrs. Cates, then it was off to class for some serious learning. The parents met after drop-off at Elements in Marble Hill, for the Annual ‘Tears and Cheers’ event.  This casual get-together features more cheers than tears, as well as coffee and camaraderie. 

The PreSchool at Wildwood began its school year with a Meet and Greet day on September 2 with two classes of fresh-faced 3 and 4 year olds. In addition to introductions in math, science, art and reading, the PreSchool students have plenty of time for friends and fun. “The PreSchool at Wildwood offers our young students an opportunity to learn while having so much fun in our learning centers.  In addition, the art, Spanish and music teachers from the Academy will be providing the PreSchool classes with wonderful enrichment,” said Larry Ruff, the Director of The PreSchool at Wildwood. 

Wildwood Christian Academy is accepting student applications until September 15^th and the PreSchool is accepting applications in its 3-year-old program until September 30^th.
